Body Sensing Practice

One of my favourite practices to begin any session, tuning into and connecting with the body’s inherent wisdom.

A practice in establishing a fundamental awareness to understand what the body does naturally, and learn its inherent patterns of intelligence.

1. Set a timer for 10min and find a comfortable position. Best to lay down on a flat surface and support the body.

2. Ensure a sense of relaxation and alertness.

3. Say to yourself, in your mind or out loud, “I am going to do nothing, just be with my body, and observe what it does.”

4. Close your eyes and exhale a few breaths.

5. Spend time allowing your awareness to roam about the body. No need to be systemic ie: moving from head to toe. This practice is designed to allow yourself to observe what the body does naturally, and learn its inherent patterns of intelligence.

6. Take notice of which parts of the body are responding. Perhaps you notice a tingling in your chest, or a shoulder relaxing, or maybe you tune into the quality of your breath.

7. Continue to allow your awareness to roam as it will.

8. When the timer goes off, begin to move the body slowly and gently. Notice how you feel in your body. Do you notice how your body is more sensitized?
